Whew. I had my follow-up appointment with Dr. Ross in Billings on Wednesday & it was full of good news. He says my stroke risk is no longer increased and my risk for traumatic brain injury is no different today that 2 years from now. I NEVER would have thought 10 years ago that I would cry happy tears when someone told me I could run again (slowly, carefully, not far… but hey—I’m only 3 weeks post-op!) I can xc ski, even downhill ski (again, slowly, carefully, helmeted & “don’t overdo it.”) I’m telling you, I just like this guy~ he sticks with highlighting the few things not to do & then says “listen to your body and don't overdo it” but it’s OK to start increasing activities as it feels good, so long as I still avoid anything with my head below my heart or anything strenuous (no breath holding/straining/ etc.) I can lay flat to sleep! ReplyDeleteMy extra high-risk window for infection & stroke lasts through Monday the 18th. So I'm on super-light duty until then. Visitors are a very welcome distraction, I just don't last all too long. Come Monday, I'm hoping I'll be ready for some short mellow wanders in good company.
ReplyDeletePlease come hungry & thirsty! We have tons of food & there's few things I love more than enjoying coffee/tea with friends. (I'm on the decaf train for at least another week, butI will still hook you up with the good stuff- promise!)
My phone is silenced a good 99% of the time, so call & text away & know you are not interrupting anything; I will get back to you when I'm up for it & awake. I love my people. You make my heart whole & have been such an important part of navigating all of this craziness.
I'm already dreaming of rallying any fine folks that are interested in joining me at a little place called "Bridger Brewing" for some (ginger) beer & pizza Tuesday the 19th to celebrate my newly upgraded freedom- time TBD. I'll update as those plans come together, but it's a tradition & I'm already looking forward to it! It'll be a little weird to go without a ski or run first, but I think I'll get over it ;)
